It may still be summer, but unfortunately it’s getting to be about that time when the thought of school is catching up with us once again. Most of us know what to expect once the new semester begins, but for incoming freshmen, this time can be very overwhelming.

Fortunately, there are plenty new things out on the market to make freshmen life, or college life in general, a little more pleasant.

iPod by Apple

Whether you’re walking from class to class or working out at the gym, this handy little gadget lets you keep thousands of your favorite comfort songs right in your pocket.

SLVR phone by Motorola

This super sleek device doubles as a camera phone and as an iPod. One of the coolest features it offers is the built-in speaker phone which, unlike an iPod, will also play your iTunes loud enough for your friends to enjoy.

Wardrobes must-haves

North Face fleece jacket: an all-seasons classic cover-up.

Baseball cap: Whether you’re having a bad hair day or it’s pouring rain outside, it’s always nice to have your favorite hat around. Some of the most popular varieties around campus feature college teams, beer brands and everyone’s favorite, the old-school Milwaukee Brewers logo.

Footwear: It is nice to keep a few stand-bys on hand such as flip-flops for warm weather, Uggs for the winter and for everyday getting around, a pair of something comfy like Nike Shox or Birkenstocks.

Dorm Necessities

A shower caddy

Waterproof flip-flops

Microwave-safe dishes

Laundry bags

Photos of your friends and family from back home

Food items

Bottled water

Cereal

Easy mac

Energy drinks for those late-night study sessions

Favorite childhood stuff like fruit snacks, juice boxes and pudding packs which are easy to travel with

Well, now that your know how to call home in style, dress like a local and survive dorm life, back to school should be a breeze. Good luck to all incoming freshmen and welcome to UWM!
