Brunch is my favorite meal.

First, it’s socially acceptable to start drinking in the morning when you are brunching.

Second, there’s nothing like meeting up with your friends for some good eats and the swapping of stories from the night before. Or, in some cases, trying to piece together the night before.

Milwaukee isn’t short on excellent places for brunch and here are a few of my favorites.

Brady Street Pharmacy

1696 N. Astor St.
272-4384

Did you spend too much money out at the bar last night? Is your body mad at you, craving grease to help you feel better?

This is the best place to go if you are hung-over and broke. The food is cheap, fast and greasy, the coffee is strong and it’s exactly what your hangover needs. If your lungs aren’t too charred from the night before, you can smoke here. Plus, you can stock up on any toiletries, especially Advil for your headache, while you’re in.

Hi Hat

1701 N. Arlington Place
225-9330

Oh, how I love the Hi Hat. It’s one of my favorite places to go at night, and with their brunch, it’s a great morning (or early afternoon) spot as well.

You can’t beat the Hi Hat’s brunch in the summer — you can sit outside. We all know how much I love people watching on Brady Street and this is the place to do it on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

Beans & Barley

1901 E. North Ave.
278-7878

I could eat at Beans and Barley every day and not get sick of their delicious food. In fact, if given the opportunity I probably would eat there every day. I could eat there twice a day if need be — that’s how good the food is there.

Their brunch is great, and the place gets crowded rather quickly but the wait is well worth it with their plethora of vegetarian and vegan options.

Cans Bar & Canteen

1815 E. Kenilworth Place
225-0421

There are two reasons to go to Cans for brunch on a weekend: their eggs benedict and the Bloody Mary bar. Anything you could imagine putting in a Bloody is available to you here, and there’s nothing like a little hair of the dog to start your day off right.

The last time I had brunch there my hangover was a distant memory by the time I left.
