One of the East Side’s most popular and friendly hangouts has always been the Nomad. Located at 1400 E. Brady St., it defines what the East Side stands for.
Eclectic crowds, a stellar beer and liquor selection, and an amazing view of Brady Street combine to make one of the city’s most desirable bars.
After 11 successful years, the Nomad is still moving forward with its ever-morphing crowd. Lately, the crowd seems to have gotten younger, but the old group still gathers to drink, chat and enjoy the comfortable atmosphere.
Many of the regulars refer to the Nomad as their “living room” and once you have visited a few times, you can understand why.
Most often the phrase is used to chastise newcomers, as in, “Who are all off these people in my living room?” It’s also used as a cover up for early afternoon drinking, i.e. “I’m just heading to the living room!”
The comfort level is there, and everyone seems to know each other. The Nomad is successful because of its bartenders, regular customers and booze.
A Milwaukee staple, the Prix Fix is a very popular drink deal at the Nomad. It consists of a can of Pabst, a shot of Jameson and a cigarette for $5. Who can beat that?
There are always new and interesting beers on tap, and the bartenders will be happy to suggest one if you are stuck.
One last thing about the Nomad, it is the place to meet people, run into familiar faces and even learn a thing or two. While it may not be the place to go to be alone, if you are looking to meet some members of the Post staff, the Nomad is a good bet.
