Cutthroat Tattoo, a local piercing and tattoo parlor, has a good reputation and for good reason.
“Cutthroat is striving for the higher standard and pushing the limits,” says Cutthroat body piercer Jared Anderson.
Anderson has been in the business for more than 10 years. He began in Las Vegas and then traveled around doing body piercing for four years. He reached Chicago in 2004, and settled in Milwaukee late this January.
Anderson says he got started in the piercing business because of his “fascination with ritual and culture, and taking ancient procedures and using them as your own without disgracing the cultures before.”
Anderson has seven piercings, some of which he did himself.
Anderson’s co-worker, Ryan Schepp, is a tattoo artist at Cutthroat. He began in Milwaukee six years ago doing body piercing and making the jewelry. Schepp decided to change to a tattoo artist because he wanted to make actual “body jewelry.”
Schepp’s favorite tattoo he has ever given was a biomechanical flower that he did on his girlfriend. He says it changes about every six months because they just keep getting bigger and better.
The longest Schepp has ever spent on a tattoo was 50 to 60 hours, which was broken up into six- to eight-hour sessions. This tattoo completely covered both of an individual’s arms.
Currently, facial and oral piercings are the most popular, the most painful being those done in cartilage.
The most popular tattoo spots on woman are the hip and the lower back, and for men it’s the arms and back. The most painful spots are the ribs, stomach and facial area.
As for Schepp, he has about 25 percent of his body covered in tattoos. It was hard to give a specific number because “after a while they all begin to run into one.” He designs all of his own tattoos, and everything is custom drawn.
Cutthroat offers the best of everything you need, from tattoos to body piercing and custom art to aftercare.
