In recognition for his performance this week, senior outfielder Mike Goetz of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has been named Horizon League Player of the Week.

It was the first award won by Goetz this season. He currently leads the team with a .472 batting average, a .528 slugging percentage and a .604 on-base percentage over the year.

During the week, Goetz posted an impressive .636 batting average and .733 on-base percentage in three games that helped lead the Panthers to an upset over No. 20 Missouri last weekend when Goetz went 3-for-4 with an intentional walk and scored twice.

He also was perfect on 11 chances in the field. The senior extended his hitting streak to 18 games dating back to last season.

Goetz was the second Panthers player to earn league honors for the UWM baseball team. Junior Robert Michalkiewicz earned the first when he was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 21.

UWM will return to action this weekend when it travels to Bowling Green, Ky., for two games against the Akron Zips and a third against host Western Kentucky.
