Survey examines UW System performance
A survey conducted by a Madison firm last fall revealed that state residents think the University of Wisconsin System is overpriced, overstaffed and out-of-step with ordinary people, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Friday.
Wood Communications Group organized the survey as a first step toward building support for the UW System from the business community.
They polled 600 Wisconsin adults by telephone and tallied results that have a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
The survey revealed:
- Nearly 70 percent of respondents said they thought “UW campuses have more administrators than they need.”
- Nearly 60 percent said they thought “UW campuses don’t think they have to watch their dollars like the rest of us.”
- More than 70 percent said they thought “UW campuses spend too much money on things they don’t need instead of concentrating on educating students.”
- Almost 75 percent said they could not afford to send their child to a UW System school without the aid of scholarships, grants or loans
UWM grads find degree-related jobs in Wisconsin
According to research released last week by the UWM Career Development Center, more than 91 percent of 2004 UWM bachelor’s degree graduates were employed within three to nine months of their commencement ceremonies.
Eighty-eight percent were working at jobs in Wisconsin, 85 percent said that their degrees and jobs were directly related and 84 percent were satisfied with their jobs.
The data for “A Survey of UW-Milwaukee Graduates’ Job Search Success” was collected from a Web-based survey. Graduates from the December 2003, May 2004 and Aug. 2004 terms were contacted through their UWM e-mail addresses and the survey received a 30 percent response rate.
More information about the survey and the results are available at the Career Development Center. Call 229-5064.
Unofficial transcripts now available through PAWS
The Department of Enrollment Services announced last week that students no longer have to venture over to Mellencamp Hall to get copies of their unofficial transcripts.
As of Feb. 22, students can make their request through their PAWS account.
Although a request can be made at any time, students cannot make more than one request per day, and must have an active UWM e-mail account.
