It’s simple really. The Seattle Seahawks will win Sunday’s Super Bowl because they are overall the better team.
But why? And how?
The Seattle Seahawks are coached by Mike Holmgren, former 49ers offensive coordinator and former Packers head coach. During his time with San Francisco, he helped Joe Montana and Jerry Rice become the legends they are now. He also led the Packers to two straight Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl XXXI.
Because of the knowledge and experience Holmgren has, the Seahawks will dominate this football game. Just as he did with Joe Montana and Brett Favre, Holmgren has molded Matt Hasselbeck into a Pro Bowl and Super Bowl quarterback.
Hasselbeck has played mistake-free football, throwing only nine interceptions all season. What helped even more and what should be a huge advantage for Seattle Sunday, is MVP running back Shaun Alexander. Alexander will continue his success and should easily gain 100 yards or more.
On the defensive side, the Seahawks proved they can match up against the best. Rookie middle linebacker Lofa Tatapu finished second in the league for defensive rookie of the year. Tatapu recorded 85 tackles and three interceptions (returning one for a touchdown).
Tatapu has backup too — his run defense improved from a woeful 23rd just one year ago to fifth in 2005. In two playoff games, Seattle’s run defense has given up a total of only 95 yards and that was against Washington’s Clinton Portis and Carolina’s Nick Goings.
The Seahawks will have no trouble defending the run against Pittsburgh’s Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker. Both backs will struggle throughout the game.
Pair the excellent run-stopping defense with a high-octane offense and a strong-footed place kicker in Josh Brown, and you have one hell of a team.
I can’t see Pittsburgh stopping Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander, nor can I see the Steelers being able to run, forcing an inexperienced quarterback into the line of fire. Bottom line: the Seahawks have got this one in the bank. Mike Holmgren will be victorious again and the Seahawks will make history.
