Regents OK WUWM to seek expansion

The Board of Regents on Friday voted to grant authority for WUWM (89.7) Milwaukee Public Radio to amend an existing lease for more space.

The vote, a resolution that passed the Physical Planning and Funding Committee, said that WUWM can seek to increase its space in Grand Avenue Mall from its current 9,900 square feet to 20,000 square feet.

The lease, with Polacheck Property Management, would be amended to include a space next to WUWM that is currently unused.

UWM prints restricted information

UWM printed student directories that did not restrict the names, phone numbers and addresses of students who chose to have that information restricted.

The directory listed that information because of an unintentional processing error, officials wrote in an e-mail.

The e-mail said, “About 3,500 copies of the directory were distributed to faculty and staff, and another 50 to students before the problem was discovered.”

UWM is asking that those who still have an old directory return them.

Questions should be directed to Dave Crass, Information & Media Technologies assistant director, 229-6383.

Fire outside Kenilworth Building

Officials responded to a small fire outside the Kenilworth Building about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, police said.

5th District Lt. Kim Steck said the fire happened in one of the construction trailers outside the building on the street level.

No one was inside the building and no one was injured in the fire, he said.

The fire may have been caused by a construction failure, he said.

A contractor on the scene contacted authorities about the fire on Friday.

Kenilworth Building is scheduled to be completed for fall 2006. The building will be used as housing for graduate students, non-traditional students and upperclassmen.

The building is located on Kenilworth Place east of Farwell Avenue.
