Final exams are around the corner and for those students who have general studying troubles or for those who need more specific help the Peer Mentoring Center may be the answer.

The center offers strategies for productive studying, helps those who need assistance with schedule balancing and stress relief, and aids students in various subjects including helping to write papers.

Peer Mentoring Center employee Sarah Allbaugh said that all employees of the PMC go through a year-long course before they become employed. The areas of training are communications, technology and writing.

For students who are starting to feel the pressure of finals, the PMC is offering a Stress Relief Night. This event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the Fireside Lounge, located on the first floor of the Union. Stress Relief Night offers free massages, refreshments and guided meditation.

The Peer Mentoring Center, located in Bolton Hall, Room 192, is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The PMC takes student walk-ins, but also schedules appointments over the phone and online.

Employee James Carviou said that with finals quickly approaching, the PMC sees much more traffic during this time of the semester, so taking the time to schedule an appointment is recommended.

The Peer Mentoring Center is not the only place help can be found. LINKS Peer Outreach & Mentoring Center is located in the Union, Room WG10, and can be found online at http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/OSL/POMC/.

The UWM Writing Center’s office is located in Curtain Hall, Room 382, and appointments to work with a tutor can be made online at http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/English/wcenter/ or by phone at 229-4339.
