According to WISN-TV and a Facebook group page, the identity of this morning’s homicide victim on N. Frederick Ave. is that of Lauren Aljubouri.
Aljubouri, an 18-year-old from Waukesha County, was planning to attend UWM in September. Aljubouri’s 19-year-old boyfriend, who is in police custody, had to be treated at a local hospital. There is no word on what the treatment was for.
Milwaukee police have not released any details as to how the crime occured, although WISN-TV repoted this evening that Aljubouri’s family said Aljubouri was strangled. A resident of the same apartment building told the Post that she didn’t hear any loud noises like gunshots.
Tom Luljak, Vice Chancellor of University Relations and Communications for UWM, spoke with the Post late this afternoon about the incident and said that he was told about the connection to UWM around 1:30 p.m.
“What we have been told is that she was going to be a freshman this fall,” said Luljak.
While Luljak could not go into further detail because Milwaukee police had not released any other information, he did say that he expects a campus-wide e-mail to be sent out about the incident by Sunday afternoon.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the incident occured between 1 and 2 a.m. Police arrived after receiving a call to check on the couple.

I regrettably recognized this girl as someone I personally assisted at my former employment. I remember chatting with her about her college choice for a small time, wished her a bright start and gave her some advice that I learned while my time there.
I send her family my condolences and give them my solemn apologies for thier loss.
As for the killer in question, I have only the expectation that his or her’s guilt for extinguishing a young vibrant soul will forever burden them with anguish and suffering.

I agree with Kris. Although Eric had the choice to kill her or not, I do believe it wasn’t intentional. It was a brutal murder, but anyone who knows Eric would say he wouldn’t have wanted it to happen. He was always a troubled kid, but I used to be close with him and he’s a really personable, fun guy. I do think prison will be a good thing for him- no drugs or alcohol. I just hope he knows people still care for him and doesn’t try to commit suicide again. He’s got to be going through a lot of pain right now, as do both families.
Too bad Wisconsin doesn’t have capital punishment.

Eric has been charged with First Degree Reckless Homicide. Doesn’t “reckless” imply that it was by mistake? It took Eric three to four minutes and several different positions to kill Lauren. I think he has gotten off easy. He should have been charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide.
The problem with these posting sites is that there is no quick-and-fast way to know who really is who they are posting as, and of course anything short of the results of an extensive forensic and detective investigation, complete with alibis, essentially amounts to hearsay. As to the motive for murder, I am staying out of the business of judging others. Why doesn’t anyone try to murder any of us? Which murder victim who has not murdered is more or less deserving of being targeted?
I say the best prevention of domestic violence is to not enter anyone’s domestic realm. Every person for himself/herself is the best policy, IMHO.
I am with Kris. I don’t know you personally, but I knew Lauren personally and dated Eric shortly in middle school. Lauren never treated me right for some reason, but I gave her her distance and let things be.
I believe that schizophrenia played a large role in this. It’s a mental disorder and cannot just be ignored in something like this. The complaint said that when he realized she was dead he tried to save her, that’s not a cold blooded murder, something happened there.

I appreciate you sharing the facts in this case but I think we have forgotten one thing here. Lauren is dead and Eric killed her. This was a senseless act of domestic violence. We need to honor Lauren’s memory by doing something to stop the violence. I feel fortunate to have grown up in a generation where people cared. They cared about the less fortunate, the environment, and who the next President would be. Your generation needs to step up to the plate and do something positive for the world. Here is the true story of what happend, and i know its the truth because the boyfriend of this story is my best freind, and he called me right after he killed her, and i was the one to call the police….
His name is Eric Tavaleras (not sure on the spelling) and he was heavily drinking while watching a movie with lauren, and he said the next thing he new, is that he was on top of her, choking her. As soon as he relized what he was doing, he immediatly stopped and tried giving her CPR, but it was too late. He did not remember anything inbetween, or why. While on the phone with me, he again tried CPR, but then proceeded to try and kill himself by taking a bottle of Tylonel PM. The overdose did not kill him, but that is what he was treated for in the hospital.
That was basically the night sumed up………in the past Eric has also admitted to schizophrenic symptems, which as his freind, i believe this was a major factor in the incident.
